Raisa was raised by both the parents of her at Los Angeles, California. Irlanda Almendarez and Italia Almendarez are her sisters. Francia's first name is Italian meaning France. Similar to that, Irlanda is Ireland in Italian and Italia can be the Italian term for Italy. The mother of Francia, Virginia Almendarez has Mexican roots as does her father Renan, has roots in Honduras. Renan altered his surname to Cucuy shortly after the birth of Francia. He is a well-known radio personality and a top Latino DJ from Los Angeles. The sisters of Francia grew up within a home with a well-known father. She speaks fluently in Spanish as well as English. Francia started taking dance classes in the age of five. Her parents were in charge of enrolling her. The lessons were not limited to a specific style. The classes included all kinds of dance from tap to jazz, Polynesian, hip-hop, and acrobatics. She also took classes in activities like iceskating, and Karate. In the final term of junior high she was also enrolled in classes for modelling as well as acting. Francia graduated from secondary school in Bishop Alemany, Mission Hills in California.
